Reds True Barbecue

Awesomeness

Reds True Barbecue
Burger Ordered: Pit Burger
Date: 25th November
Location: Hanover Street, Liverpool

+ The Good +
Delicious Pulled Pork
Great Fries
Nice Brioche
Good selection of sauces

– The Bad –
Poor quality beef patty
Overcooked and dry

Overall the burger was nice, an enjoyable meal with a good selection of sauces, tasty pulled pork, nice brioche and good shoestring fries.
The thing that let it down was the burger patty. It was not of high quality which was evident in the texture and taste, and it was overcooked and dry.
Besides that, all the other ingredients were tasty, the restaurant itself is fun and the staff were friendly and helpful.

Burgeri
Burger Ordered: B Special
Date: 21st November
Location: Great Marlborough St, Soho

+ The Good +
Nice overall taste
Good textured patty

– The Bad –
Take away quality

I wasn’t expecting very much from this fast food style take away joint, but I was pleasantly surprised to find a pretty tasty burger.
It’s hard to compare this type of burger with say, Honest Burger, but here goes:
The patty was quite thin so it was cooked through, though it wasn’t dry or over cooked. A really nice burger sauce inside and what I suspect as a potato bread bun was actually pretty good.
I’m going to rate this 2 1/2 stars as it still is a takeaway burger but it’s better than others. It’s maybe a little pricey for this level.

Honest Burger 4

Awesomeness

Honest Burger
Burger Ordered: Chimichurri 2.0 Burger Special
Date: 17th November
Location: Market Pl, Fitzrovia

+ The Good +
Chimichurri Sauce
Malbec Onions
Overall great quality

– The Bad –
Slightly messy

The Chimichurri 2.0 burger special is perfection.
The patty itself is cooked ‘medium-rare’ to order as I like it, with typical great texture and juiciness I’ve come to expect from Honest Burgers, the brioche is as good as ever, however it’s what they’ve done with the other flavors is what makes this burger really special.
The chimichurri relish on top of the patty is excellent. It’s tasty, has a nice kick to it and the chorizo in it ads a depth of flavor that works really well.
The patty sits ontop of onions cooked in malbec and they are just delicious, they compliment the flavors well without being too sharp.
The fries were especially good today, crunchy yet hot and not over seasoned which they have been in the past.
Extra credit for the amazing service and complimentary bacon sauce, bacon gravy and wings.
Cant wait to eat this burger again – it’s amazing.

Staxx
Burger Ordered: Bring Home the Bacon Burger
Date: 3rd November
Location: Kingly Court, Carnaby Street Soho

+ The Good +
Nice bun
Location is in a nice court

– The Bad –
Beef bacon is chewy and overly sweet
Average quality over cooked patty

This was a really disappointing burger.
I ordered ‘medium’ (as this was a rare as would be served) but it was ‘medium-well done’ at best. It also lacked flavour.
The beef bacon is just bad. It’s like beef jerky in texture and very sugary.
Couldn’t even taste the cheese that was supposed to be in there.
The fries were okay, chunky style but not seasoned at all. Once salt was added they were fine.
I actually took the ‘bacon’ out as its impossible to even bit through it without destroying the burger in the process.
Quite a high price and slaps you with service charge though there wasn’t much of that.

Bukowski Grill

Awesomeness

Bukowski Grill
Burger Ordered: Cheese & bacon Burger
Date: 27th October
Location: D’Arblay St, Soho

+The Good+
Great Flavour

– The Bad –
A bit greasy
Patty ‘medium’ rather than ‘medium-rare’ ordered

Once again it was an excellent burger, though it did fall short of the last one I had here in September.
The brioche was great, the sauces and condiments were good and the overall taste was very good.
However, I asked for ‘medium-rare’ and it was served slightly pink, so a bit too well done for me.
The fries were thick cut chips this time, which were okay, perhaps a little cold, though I much preferred the skinny fries served last time.
It was noticeably greasier this time and left a lot of wet juices running onto the plate.
Saying this, it was a very good burger and I enjoyed it a lot.

Shake Shack
Burger Ordered: Bacon Cheeseburger
Date: 10th October
Location: New York, New York, Las Vegas

+ The Good +
Nice overall taste

– The Bad –
Potato bread has an unpleasant texture
Fast food quality

The main problem with this Shake Shack burger is the bun. Potato bread has an awful squishy texture I can best describe as clay like. It doesn’t recover it’s shape when your fingers push into it, and it moulds into a stodgy substance that just doesn’t feel right.
The burger patty is as to be expected from a fast food restaurant, thin, cooked through and greasy enough to swallow easily.
The sauces and condiments are good so the overall flavour is nice, and the crinkly fires are good too.
It wasn’t a bad burger but it really is McDonalds quality fast food so I shouldn’t have expected too much

Honest Burger 3

Honest Burger
Burger Ordered: Oktoberfest Special
Date: 29th September
Location: Meard St, Soho

+ The Good +
Juicy tasty patty
Typical high quality HB standard

– The Bad –
Sauerkraut is too vinegary
Lacking flavour

True to Honest Burgers typical high standards, the patty was pink and juicy with a nice texture, the brioche held it all together and the rosemary fries were great as always, however the sauerkraut just didn’t work for me.
It was very vinegary, and that overpowering taste killed all the other flavours, which was a real shame.
The sauerkraut seemed to have replaced another ingredient so it felt like there was something missing that would have made it an awesome burger.
It wasn’t terrible and had great qualities to it but I wouldn’t buy this special again.

Ichibuns

Awesomeness

Burger Ordered: Ichibun
Date: 14th September
Location: Wardour St, Soho

+ The Good +
Nice pickles and sauces
Tasty flavour

– The Bad –
Overall a bit dry
Soggy fries

The restaurant itself is great, nice atmosphere and fun decor.
The first bite and I thought I was eating a posh McDonalds burger, it reminded me a lot of a Bic Mac, though it was much better.
The burger had some great flavours going on, I thought I’d hate the onion but it was so thinly sliced and matched with the sauces and pickles that it worked really well.
It looked cool as it was individually branded with a Japanese logo, however this made the texture feel dried out.
The patty was Wagyu beef and was pink in the middle but it was also a little dried out somehow
The fries were rammed into a paper cup, (again could have been from McDonalds) and were pretty soggy towards the bottom, so that wasn’t great.
It was quite expensive with service charge put on the bill but it was a good burger, though the fries left a bit of a bad taste in my mouth.

Burger Ordered: Bacon Cheeseburger
Date: 8th September
Location: D’Arblay St, Soho

+The Good+
Juicy thick medium rare patty
Great overall taste

– The Bad –
A little messy

Walked past Bukowski Grill on the way to another burger joint but as it was raining we decided to give it a try.
We weren’t at all disappointed!
The burger was thick and very juicy, served medium rare with bacon and cheese on a brioche and skin on fries.
Loads of great flavours going on, even the ketchup on the table had a distinct spice in it and was tasty.
Bacon was thick cut and excellent, the patty had a nice texture to it and was also thick. It was hot, juicy and pink in the middle. The holy trinity.
I guess the only criticism was that it’s a bit messy, though it’s a minor thing as it tastes so good I don’t think anyone would care.
For lunch on a Friday in Soho there was no problem getting a table, and at £7.95 for burger and fries it was a bargain.
Definitely come back again!

Honest Burger 2

Honest Burger
Burger Ordered: The California
Date: 18th August
Location: Market Pl, Fitzrovia

+ The Good +
Juicy tasty patty
Great bun
Great flavour

– The Bad –
Unadventurous Perhaps

Honest burger have created a top quality burger that ticks all the boxes. Again.
Great tasting patty, all well seasoned on a good demi brioche bun and crunchy rosemary fries.
Bacon flavour was noticeable throughout.
It was such a good burger, however it wasn’t all that adventurous with the sauces as it was Frenches mustard and onions.
Acording to the waitress it’s a collaboration with California’s In’n’Out Burger though there’s no official note of this written down so who knows.
Very good contender for the top spot but not quite.
